From early experiences working in their immediate and local surroundings, the children will progress to more detailed study of the earth and natural, human, social political and cultural influences. The aim is to stimulate children’s interest in and curiosity about their surroundings, to create and foster a sense of wonder about the world around and to inspire a sense of responsibility and care for the environment from the local to the global.

Relationships between their own environment and the influences upon it, continue to be an important factor throughout. Such studies may be made in the context of wider themes or in specific geographical topics. A two yearly cycle of topics enables full coverage of skills, concepts and content as defined in the National Curriculum.
