Our Learning

Summer term so far!

We have had a really busy half term full of sport, discovery and exploration!

We attended a Y5/6 Cricket competition at the end of April - as you may have guessed we didn't have enough Y5/6's to make up a team so WE TOOK THE WHOLE TEAM.  We all played brilliantly and all had a go at batting and bowling against some tricky (and older!) teams.  We're so proud of the efforts of our children, and watch out - we have some very talented players among us!

We have also attended the Y5/6 Tennis competition. Harry, Hannah, Kirsty and George played superbly and .....

Our gorgeous Y4 children (along with Miss Burrell) have been to Marrick Priory for a 2 night residential from 10th to 12th May! We went with the Y4 children from RMS and had the best time.  We enjoyed activities like Beck Scrambling, Low Ropes, Climbing and Abseiling (YIKES!) and even some Archery.  We all thoroughly enjoyed it and challenged ourselves to do things we didn't even know we could do - there's some serious discovery!

Ancient Egypt:

This term we have had an amazing time exploring Ancient Egypt. We explored lots of different artefacts and had a go at writing our names in hieroglyphics.  We really enjoyed putting everything we learned together into our Art work for the Arkengarthdale Sports Day which is being held of Saturday 3rd June - go and check it out, or have a look at our pictures here!

We have also been reading a brilliant book called 'The Egypt Game'.  We've had so much fun exploring the text through actions and text maps, as well as changing parts of the story to make it our own.  We have had some very mysterious settings and creepy characters making their way into our writing!

In Science, we have been exploring Light.  We have carried out lots of experiments to find out what light actually 'is' and why it is SO important, we have discovered what life was like without light, and we have explored how the sun changes the size of our shadows! With the weather being so beautiful, we have discussed the importance of sun safety and what precautions to take from the sun and why!

We have had a great half term furthering our learning on fractions, before moving onto 'Visualising Shape'.  Among other things, we had a great morning exploring reflection and symmetry and making rules to teach one another how to reflect accurately, even when the patterns were a little tricky!

As you may notice, another successful and fun term - bring on Summer 2!
